We are extremely proud of our Emory Eye Center Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows, both past and present. Whether they chose to remain in academic medicine and research or entered private practice, there are few work environments in which they cannot thrive. Each continues to personify the highest standards of excellence in ophthalmology and builds upon Emory Eye Center’s reputation as a longstanding center of excellence.
As an Emory Eye Center alumnus, you’re part of a select group of respected ophthalmologists worldwide. You can continue your connection with EEC and further strengthen our reputation for residency and fellowship training by supporting the Broocker Fund in Ophthalmology Residency Education or another area of the department.

As early as the 1940s, the Emory Eye Center Ophthalmology training program has developed strong clinicians and surgeons. The venues for training, initially centered at Grady, have grown to include equally strong components at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and Emory Clinic. The diversity of patients and complexity of their eye diseases creates an experience unmatched by most training centers around the country.
When Thomas M. Aaberg, Sr., MD, was named chairman of Ophthalmology and director of Emory Eye Center in 1988, the concept of education and training became an even stronger priority. He focused on recruiting faculty who excelled in teaching as well as clinical care, and also brought Geoff Broocker, MD, to Emory as the department’s first full-time residency program director.
