Our 27th SEVR 2013 was another great success. Retinal physicians from the region came to share their cases and discuss new information brought by others. The Paul Sternberg Jr. Lecture was presented by Donald J. D'Amico of Weill Cornell Medical College. His topic: "The management of retinal detachment: advances, challenges and controversies."
RB Kids Day: 2013The 15th annual RB Kids Day (2013) was held on a beautiful Saturday, May 11, in a nearby Decatur park. We had the largest-ever gathering with numerous grateful families attending with more than 40 retinoblastoma kids. Two of our RB kids, teens now, volunteered this year; in fact, one has raised money through her special projects to help fund RB research. This year, WSB TV produced a special about our event on its "People to People" program.
Residents and fellows graduate
The graduating classes of residents and fellows for June 2013 were celebrated with the customary festive events, including the ever-popular golf tournament, the scientific session and the dinner. Three of our graduates stayed with us: two as assistant professors (Jeremy Jones and Jason Peragllo, and one, as a glaucoma fellow (Gagan Sawhney). A poignant moment took place when longtime department secretary Pat Bennett was acknowledged for her 33 years of service at the time of her retirement. An avid gardener, Pat was presented with a commemorative glass iris sculpture.
AAO/Emory Eye alumni reception in New Orleans
The alumni reception held November 17 during AAO in New Orleans was well attended. "We planned for 60 and ended up with 75 attendees," says David Woolf, senior director of Development. "It was a high energy gathering, made more so by the great food, the loud band and the Saints winning their game with San Francisco."
