Sheetal M. Shah, MD

Assistant Professor, Sections of Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery, and Comprehensive Ophthalmology


Sheetal M. Shah, MD, is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology within Emory University School of Medicine. She recently joined the section of Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery. In addition she will also be involved in Comprehensive Ophthalmology.

Dr. Shah has conducted research on ocular surface disorders, including management of severe dry eye syndrome in patients with autoimmune disease. She has also participated in research evaluating resident outcomes in cataract surgery and determining reasons for noncompliance in glaucoma patients. Her clinical interests include external diseases of the eye, corneal transplant surgery including implantation of keratoprostheses and cataract surgery.

She also holds a strong interest in international eye care, having spent time with Surgical Eye Expeditions in India, where she worked with a local eye center with goals of restoring sight to disadvantaged blind individuals. She assisted in multiple small incision sutureless extracapsular cataract surgeries and gained invaluable experience in the management of complicated adult and pediatric corneal diseases.

Dr. Shah is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
